Residents from The Inn & Gardens made homemade dog treats today! All of the residents love our furry four legged friends and wanted to make them something special when they visit. The treats were made of oatmeal, bananas and peanut butter. It was a easy but delicious recipe. We had Dennis, our Exercise Instructor, give one to his faithful sidekick Dakota, and she loved it! If you ever visit The Inn or Gardens and have your dog with you, ask for one of these tasty treats. If you would like to try it out the recipe, instructions are below.
1 large banana
1 & 1/2 cups of oatmeal
1/2 cup of peanut butter
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Then using a food processor or blender, grind your oats until they are powder. In a bowl beat banana and peanut butter until smooth. A few small chunks of banana here and there is okay. The dough should stick together but should not be sticky. Save about a tablespoon of ground oatmeal and pour the rest into the banana peanut butter mixture and mix until combined. Dust your surface with reserved ground oatmeal and roll your dough to about a 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into fun shapes and place on parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Bake treats for about 15 minutes or until edges start to brown. Cool completely before storing in an airtight container for up to a week.
*MOST IMPORTANTLY* find a cute dog to share with!
