SO MUCH TO DO
Life is a gift and time is precious. The right retirement community can help people connect with purpose and passions.

“People would do more if they had means to do it. You know, it’s like a lot of people would be interested in something else if there were the means to do it. This community provides the means.” – Ariel Wynn, resident of The Fountains at La Cholla

MEET ARIEL WYNN, A FOUNTAINS RESIDENT WHO DISCOVERED THAT TUCSON IS NOT REALLY ALL THAT DIFFERENT FROM MANHATTAN.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Ariel Wynn on Thursday, November 3rd, 2016. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)

A native New Yorker, Ariel called Manhattan home until her mid 50s. That’s when she was relocated for her job, along with 45 of her colleagues, to Tucson. In addition to adjusting to the stark change in scenery and climate, Ariel had to learn how to drive! When the culture shock wore off, she realized Tucson isn’t all that different. Prior to moving to The Fountains four years ago, Ariel familiarized herself with various retirement communities. She was intrigued by their many convenient offerings, which Mission Palms, her previous apartment complex lacked. Now she no longer has to drive to be independent and she especially enjoys dining with friends, attending concerts and lectures and helping others.

EXPLORE YOUR OPTIONS EARLY
How will you live your best life from today forward? It’s a good question, yet one that people rarely ask themselves. Why leave your future to chance when you can create it with proper forethought and research? If you haven’t fully explored your retirement living options, it’s about time you got started. As Ariel Wynn discovered, today’s retirement communities are numerous, diverse and worth examining closely. All it takes is a little time. Whatever your current age, open your mind to the possibilities, learn from Ariel’s experience and let your own journey begin. “I’m planning on a long stay. I’m 82. I came in at 78 and I noticed some people expressed some concern about that but you know there is no age restriction. There are quite a few of us that are in our late 70s or early 80s.” – Ariel Wynn

ENVIABLE LIFESTYLE
Ariel had already looked at a number of communities when a bad fall and injury expedited her decision. After recuperating, she moved into her one bedroom apartment at The Fountains and was warmly welcomed by seven or eight former Mission Palms neighbors. Appreciating that she was able to tiptoe into her new lifestyle at her own pace, her “happy adjustment” turned into a thriving lifestyle that is now the envy of her friends. “Having been here four years, I really truly feel, my physical problems are increasing of course, but I feel I’m thriving. I’m just having a good time. People say to me, ‘Wow, I’m jealous. I’m jealous.’ So I’m fortunate. I feel very blessed.” – Ariel Wynn

NO PROBLEM GETTING AROUND
When Ariel isn’t returning a Fountains library book, joining a sing-along or helping people with low vision, she’s meeting different friends for dinner. She appreciates the convenience of nearby doctors’ offices and Northwest Medical Center. She also enjoys having all of her independence without the hassles of driving a car. She takes advantage of chauffeured recreational outings as well as medical transportation provided Monday through Thursday from 8:00am until 3:00pm. “It’s part of the package that you are taken there and you are brought back in a timely fashion. It’s a really great service.” – Ariel Wynn
