NO HARM IN LOOKING
How will you know if retirement community living is right unless you explore your options?

“You really have to discuss it and just come and look and see for yourselves. It’s a good thing to see.” – Yvonne Shallenberger, resident of The Fountains at La Cholla

MEET YVONNE SHALLENBERGER, A VIBRANT MEMBER OF A THRIVING COMMUNITY.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from a video interview conducted with Yvonne Shallenberger on Friday, February 19th, 2016. To read the condensed transcript, please click here.

Known and loved by newcomers as the neighbor who greets them with a homemade cake, Yvonne has been loving life at The Fountains for 10 years. She resides very comfortably in a 1,200-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bath casita with her five-pound rescue Chihuahua, Missy May. They have a beautiful view. Yvonne loves her open floor plan and turned her second bedroom into a study. She doesn’t miss the drudgeries of cooking, cleaning, yard work or driving and everything she needs is at her disposal. She fills her days with activities of her choosing, like volunteer work, dining with friends, ballroom dancing, bible study and shopping.

IT’S HOME, ONLY BETTER
Life at the right retirement community gives you all the freedoms you currently enjoy plus so much more. When you choose retirement community living, you’re free from household chores and worries about your day-to-day safety and well-being. Even your children feel liberated when their time with you is 100% quality time. But it’s not just about the freedom. It’s also about the fun. “I hope people will want to come here just to see what they can see for themselves. There is great entertainment. We have parties. We have an exercise program… A lot of exciting things going on in The Fountains. The maintenance people are fabulous. Transportation if you don’t want to drive, you can ride in the transportation and they’re so good to you. I’m telling you they have helped me many times.” – Yvonne Shallenberger

LIVE WORRY FREE
When Yvonne and her late husband Frank were homeowners, endless chores were wearing them down. After trying a different retirement community for two years, their daughter suggested The Fountains. It was a much better fit for them. They travelled extensively and never had to worry about a thing. Now that it’s just Yvonne and Missy May, life continues, worry free. “It was a hard decision for us to make but we decided it was the best decision that we could possibly make for ourselves because our home was large on the eastside and it was just getting to be too much work for us to take care of everything.” – Yvonne Shallenberger

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
Yvonne enjoys her independence and the feeling of community, too. Being diabetic, she especially appreciates the help that’s always available to her if she needs it, and so do her children. “You have wonderful neighbors and you make many new friends. And my kids love it for me to be here because they don’t have to worry about me and that is a really nice thing too.” – Yvonne Shallenberger

DON’T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT
