TAKE BACK PRECIOUS TIME
When it starts to feel like the house you own really owns you, it’s time to explore your options.

“I’d be spending a lot more time cooking and cleaning and not having as much time to write and finding people to take care of the darn place. You know the homeownership gets to be a burden.” – Gerry Tamm, resident of The Fountains at La Cholla

MEET JERRY AND GERRY TAMM, SNOWBIRDS WHO NESTED PERMANENTLY AT THE FOUNTAINS AT LA CHOLLA.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Jerry and Gerry Tamm on Monday, May 4th, 2015. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)

After 16 years of dividing their time between Dearborn, Michigan and Tucson, Arizona, Jerry and Gerry found their ideal spot to settle down where their nine kids love to visit. They spent two years examining their options in both states before selecting a two-bedroom apartment at The Fountains. Now Jerry and Gerry are free to enjoy their time as they wish. From their first floor, northeast corner apartment, they watch the sunrise before Jerry heads to the pool. From there, the world is their oyster as they choose from a wide variety of community offerings.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
Maintaining a house and managing a household can drain you physically, mentally and spiritually, not to mention financially. If you prefer to stay, that’s your prerogative. However, shouldn’t you at least examine your options before you decide? Retirement community living can free you of home maintenance headaches as well as loathsome meal planning and preparation so you can relax and enjoy the fun side of life. After weighing their options, Jerry and Gerry Tamm couldn’t be happier they moved to The Fountains. “We love it here, I mean we really do. It’s a very active community and we’re both involved in several things in addition to we get to eat with different people every day. You meet all kinds of folks in the morning. It’s just a terrific place. We love the hubbub here.” – Jerry Tamm

WRITE YOUR NEXT CHAPTER
Gerry, who has written five books, has been busy writing her memoir. In it, she describes their quest for the right retirement community: “We wanted to be in a place with lots of activity, good food, and interesting people. We wanted staff who did not patronize their residents…We wanted flexibility and our choice of dinner partners. We wanted a kitchen where we could actually cook if we so chose, not just a microwave and a mini refrigerator. We wanted an attractive apartment with unobtrusive safety measures. We wanted a good library with residents actually using it. Not a place where people were waiting to die. We wanted The Fountains.” – Gerry Tamm

COME AND GO AS YOU PLEASE
Jerry describes why he likes “the hubbub” of The Fountains. “Gerry and I get together and have breakfast every morning in the dining room. And then we come back and we both have busy schedules. Gerry has a book group. She has a writing group. We both have Tai Chi twice a week and so we just do things. We’re right in the very corner of the building and we get a great view of the mountains, my car is 30 feet away. And we can come and go pretty much as we please.” – Jerry Tamm
